Tests are often a critical part of the graduate application process, but requirements vary greatly from program to program. Always check with each program you are applying to determine the required tests.
MBA and related business school programs usually require the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test or GRE (Graduate Graduate Record Exam). Some MBA and many EMBA programs also take the EA (Executive Assessment. Some schools might have their own institutional test. In other cases, test scores are optional or can, in special cases, be waived. Those applying for an MBA will most likely be required to take the GMAT, GRE, or in more limited cases, the EA.
Many other US graduate degree programs require the GRE. JD programs in the US require the LSAT (JD/MBA 3-year programs take GMAT/GRE). Other US exams include the MCAT (Medical School) and DAT (Dental School).
Outside of the US, the test requirements will vary greatly and should be confirmed on a school-by-school basis.

In addition to general tests, English language proficiency tests are often required for those who don’t have a university degree where English is the primary language or in limited cases where the school requires an English test for those applying from a particular country.
The two most common tests are TOEFL and IELTS.
