Thanks to Duke Fuqua and our fabulous moderator, Travis Morgan, for kicking off our 2022 Summer with the Schools webinar series.
We were thrilled to host Shari Hubert and Allison Jamison, learning about the process for the 2022-23 Application Cycle. In addition, we heard about several interesting programming changes.
When will the application be out?
The application will be out in the first week of July. Deadlines are available now.
What’s staying the same in 2022-23?
Application Questions
The application questions, perennial favorites among applicants, remain the same in the 2022-23 cycle. One small addition is that applicants will be asked to record the pronunciation of their name as part of the application so that interviewers and staff can address people accurately throughout the process.
Recommendations
The recommendation questions also remain the same in the 2022-23 application cycle. Applicants can use the common recommendation form or recommenders can submit through the application as well.
Testing Options
Standardized testing options remain the same. GMAT, GRE and EA are all accepted and valued similarly.
Programs
The Accelerated Daytime MBA program continues to be a popular option for people who already have a master’s degree in management.
What’s new (or returning) in 2022-23?
Single Recommender
Fuqua was one of the first MBA programs to introduce the option of a single recommender.
This year, they are removing the optionality of a second recommender to make it more clear for applicants that one recommender is sufficient. There continues to be the option of simple alumni or student recommendation in the application process as well. The admissions team emphasized that the informal recommendation is not required for success.
In-Person Interviews
The option to interview in-person returns for Fuqua again this fall. Remote interviews remain an option as well. The admissions team emphasized the value of getting to know the school and visiting in person is one way to build that knowledge. They value genuine interest, which can be communicated in a number of ways. Interviews will be conducted by Admissions Fellows, second-year students, along with alumni.
DEI Concentration
There is a new DEI concentration offered this year based on student demand. The program continues to grow to reflect interests.
Fuqua Impact Scholars
Fuqua is introducing a new program, Fuqua Impact Scholars, which is a scholarship program that identifies students whose interests match the focus areas of Fuqua’s research centers:
- Health Sector Management (HSM) Center
- Coach K/Center of Leadership and Ethics (COLE)
- Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI)
- Energy, Development, and the Global Economy (EDGE)
- Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE).
Scholarship amounts will vary for recipients, but all Fuqua Impact Scholars will have access to center staff, guest speakers, and special events throughout the year. Note that the CASE Fuqua Impact Scholar program is replacing the CASE Scholars program.
Huge thanks to the team from Fuqua for a great conversation!
