AIGAC shares applicant perspective at GMAC’s 2017 Annual Conference

A recap of the AIGAC survey session at the 2017 GMAC Annual Conference

Compiled and Submitted by the Survey Committee

AIGAC presented the results of the 2017 AIGAC Applicant survey at the 2017 Annual GMAC Conference last week. The MBA Applicant Survey’s mission, providing a voice for the applicant in the process, was evident throughout the discussion.

In terms of content, the survey focused on the applicant story, a cohesive narrative that shared the Millennial Paradox that many of admissions consultants have experienced, contrasting the applicant’s desire to have easy access to information for school selection and decision-making with personalized attention and support throughout the entire admissions journey. While Millennials know that numbers matter, they also have stories that they want heard.

What was evident throughout the discussion, and the many questions that followed, is that schools are deeply interested in the perspective of applicants.

Schools asked detailed questions about the way information is conveyed on their websites, perceptions of visits to their campuses, and even how to encourage more applicants to their programs.

As expected, the greatest focus was on the question “How well did applicants get to know you?” – a question that has been the staple of our survey since 2009.

On a personal level, it was great to be welcomed by an enthusiastic and supportive audience who appreciated the valuable insights. The survey presenters were greeted with hugs and handshakes, reflecting the years of effort and hard work that the original founders, board members, and every member of this organization has made to drive our success.  Thank you!
